AAPA Statement Against Racial Violence and Hatred

The Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA) condemns the racism, domestic terrorism and hatred perpetrated by White supremacist and neo-Nazi groups in recent weeks, particularly in Charlottesville, Virginia. We extend our condolences to the family of Heather Heyer, the state troopers who were killed, and the injured peaceful protesters during this assault.

In 2017, it is a mistake to believe our nation is immune to racial attack. As Asian Americans, we recognize the legacy of White supremacy and racism in the United States which continues to affect and traumatize communities of color. To imply that those who fight racism and those who perpetrate it have similar intentions is to demean the suffering and courageous acts of our predecessors, many of whom gave their lives in a fight against intolerance. For these reasons, we join the Association for Black Psychologists (ABPsi), the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Council on Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), and many other organizations in unequivocally rejecting the hateful acts of these groups and call on others to do the same.

We denounce all forms of racism and bigotry – from the increased number of hate crimes in recent months to the microaggressions that people of color face in their daily lives. Since its inception, AAPA has understood the damaging effects of racism, discrimination, and race-based trauma, which often lead to significant consequences for mental health, physical health, and one’s ability to thrive. As Asian Americans, we share in the fear, mourning, and outrage that our communities are experiencing in the face of prejudice and oppression. We stand in solidarity with communities who have been targeted most by this hate – particularly Black, Jewish, Latinx, Muslim, Sikhs, and LGBTQ people.

AAPA recommits to our members, and to those affected, that we will actively stand with you in these moments. We will continue to protect the rights of disenfranchised communities as they fight for social justice, equity and healing. We are with you.

2017 AAPA Inaugural Leadership Institute Pre-Conference Call for Application

It is my extreme honor and pleasure to announce the launch of our inaugural Graduate Student Leadership Institute! We are piloting this first institute with hopes of continuing to offer this pre-conference institute in the future. All students at all levels across all program types are eligible to apply for the institute. We especially encourage applicants looking for opportunities to engage in leadership opportunities and mentorship relationships who may not yet have had access to such opportunities. 2017 AAPA Inaugural Leadership Institute Pre-Conference

Call for Applications Due September 4, 2017

AAPA and the Leadership Fellows Program are excited to launch and pilot the inaugural Graduate Student Leadership Institute. The event will take place starting Wednesday, October 4th – Friday, October 6th.  The leadership institute is an intentional effort to bring AAPA student members together for a 2-day intensive leadership building and networking experience. 

We are launching the Graduate Student Leadership Institute in recognition that the most vulnerable and isolated Asian American and Pacific Islander American (AAPI) students within AAPA may not graduate from their programs without additional supports and opportunities to engage in work they find meaningful outside of their home graduate programs. The Leadership Institute brings these individuals together for an intensive period in order to facilitate networking and bonding that will hopefully allow students to continue to work together and support one another. We also seek to link isolated individuals with current mentors and leaders within AAPA to further enhance student’s opportunities of learning about AAPA leadership and demystifying the leadership pipeline.

Where & When

The leadership institute will be held at a house in Las Vegas beginning at 4pm on Wednesday, October 4th through breakfast on Friday, October 6th. All participants are expected to stay at the house for the duration of the institute. Housing, food, and transportation will be provided. The institute will take place at the house.

 Funding

The Institute will accept and fund 15 student participants. AAPI students from all types of graduate are eligible (e.g., M.A., M.S., Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.). Each participant will receive a $500 travel stipend and waived conference registration fees. All participants are required to stay at the Institute retreat house for the duration of the institute and attend the AAPA Convention.

 Applicant Criteria

Applicants must be current AAPA members have not completed their graduate degree programs at the time of the Leadership Institute. Preference will be given to applicants who have some prior leadership experience in local contexts (e.g., within their graduate program, volunteering in community) but who have not had leadership experience at the national level within psychology (e.g., held formal leadership positions in APA or other national psychological associations or served in any capacity on the AAPA Executive Committee). Individuals who have had limited opportunities to become more involved in leadership roles within AAPA and other organizations (e.g., current mentors are not involved in AAPA, underrepresented professional interests or personal backgrounds) are strongly encouraged to apply.

2017 AAPA Leadership Fellows Program

Call for Applications

The AAPA Leadership Fellows program is a two-year leadership pipeline program that provides mentorship around professional development and a leadership pathway by serving as an entry point for leadership for those individuals who might not have other traditional methods of receiving opportunities and mentorship toward leadership in AAPA. For example, the program works to be inclusive to early career members who come from less recognized psychological disciplines and those who could benefit from more focused mentorship that leads to AAPA leadership.The program seeks to diversify the leadership by providing Fellows with mentors and leadership experience in AAPA.The program facilitates the development of AAPA leaders who will contribute to advancing Asian Americans, multiculturalism, and social justice within psychology and the association and to serve as leaders in other academic and organizational settings.

Fellows selected for the program will participate in several trainings, receive individual and group mentoring from experienced leaders in AAPA and Past Fellows, observe and participate in AAPA Executive Committee sessions, complete a two year Fellows’ project, and present their experiences at the 2017 AAPA conference.  Fellows from the 2016 cohort will then become Past Fellows and will mentor incoming fellows for the 2017 year (optional attendance at midyear (if applicable) meetings).   

Fellows will receive a stipend each year to defray travel costs for each required meeting (i.e., midyear meeting TBD or other agreed upon professional conference or meeting, and AAPA (maximum of $1000 per trip per Fellow, up to $2000 for the entire year).  Additional costs of travel and participation will be at fellows’ expense.

Microaggressions and Self-Esteem in Emerging Asian American Adults: The Moderating Role of Racial Socialization

AAPA would like to congratulate the authors of “Microaggressions and Self-Esteem in Emerging Asian American Adults: The Moderating Role of Racial Socialization,” which has been chosen as the Feature Article of the June 2017 issue. Below is a brief biography of the lead author, Christina J. Thai, and some reflections on this research experience. We hope that the readers of AAJP will find this Feature and the rest of the issue’s articles to be informative and of benefit to their work. The Feature Article may be downloaded for free here, and the June 2017 issue’s Table of Contents is at the end of this post.

Brief Biography of Christina J. Thai

Christina J. Thai graduated from James Madison University in 2013 with bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology. Christina was a member of JMU’s Cultural and Racial Diversity Studies (CARDS) Lab for three years. As a research assistant, she worked on several projects, including one examining the relationship between Asian Americans’ phenotypic characteristics and experiences of racial microaggressions. After graduation, Christina attended Loyola University Maryland, where she received a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. With the guidance of her advisor, Dr. Heather Lyons, Christina successfully completed her thesis on the role of racial socialization as a moderator for experiences of racial microaggressions and self-esteem in Asian American emerging adults. She is now a Counseling Psychology Ph.D. student at the University of Maryland and is a member of the Culture, Race, and Health Lab working with Dr. Matt Miller. When Christina isn’t otherwise occupied as a die-hard Pittsburgh Penguin fan or an amateur Netflix critic she is busy creating a business plan for her potato themed food truck. Christina hopes to continue studying racial socialization and is currently developing her dissertation idea.

Reflections from the Lead Author

When we were asked to reflect on the interesting, fun, or challenging experiences we encountered while writing up this study we thought of many – traveling to present our research, working with a smart and fun team, and emailing and skyping one another constantly. We also reflected on a parallel process we experienced when submitting this study on microaggressions for presentation at a research event at our home institution. Our peer reviewers responded that they would be happy to include our poster in the research event, after we changed references to “microaggressions” to “perceived microaggressions” without asking that we make a similar change to the other study variables that were also measured using self report. Fortunately, around the same time we received feedback on our submission, Dr. Kira Hudson Banks had published “’Perceived’ discrimination as an example of color-blind racial ideology’s influence on psychology” in the American Psychologist. Dr. Banks’ article allowed us to ground our reaction to the review in research and even a bit of humor. According to Dr. Banks “Aliens, extraterrestrial beings, and phantom limbs are ‘perceived’” (p. 312). Asking that we insert the word “perceived” for only one study variable might have two consequences. Like phantom limbs, readers might recognize microaggressions as an experience living only in the mind of the perceiver. Second, as an experience living only in the mind of the perceiver it also removes a perpetrator from the interaction. This experience, and the insights Dr. Banks facilitated, helped us understand the importance of continuing to present and publish on microaggressions to bolster understanding and credibility of this construct.

The Asian American Journal of Psychology is extending an invitation for manuscripts to be considered for a special issue on Asian Americans and suicide.

 

The goal of this special issue is to detail the current state of knowledge and gaps about suicide in Asian American communities, and to highlight innovative approaches to suicide prevention and management for Asian Americans through a culturally informed lens.

 

Topics include, but are not limited to,

  • expansion of the current knowledge base about the problem of suicide in Asian American communities
  • ways to increase our understanding of the development of suicidal ideation and behaviors, the expression of suicidal distress or behaviors, means or methods of suicide, or culturally informed meanings of suicide
  • understudied or innovative clinical or community approaches to prevent and manage suicide

 

Manuscripts that address suicide in understudied Asian American subgroups (e.g., Hmong, Laotian, Vietnamese, and Cambodian) are particularly welcome. Varied methodologies, particularly suicide note analysis or research on Asian American suicide decedents, are also of particular interest.

 

Empirical (quantitative and qualitative) papers, meta-analytic/review papers, and theoretical-based papers are all welcomed for submission.

 

The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2017.

 

This special issue endeavors to make timely and important contributions to burgeoning questions about heightened or growing suicide ideation, behaviors, and deaths among Asian American subgroups, and to provide guidance for community and clinical efforts to curtail the problem of suicide in Asian American populations.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the Manuscript Submission portal. Please specify in your cover letter that the submission is intended for the special section on Asian Americans and suicide.

 

All papers submitted will be initially screened by the guest editors and then sent out for blind peer review, if evaluated as appropriate for the journal.

RISE IN SOLIDARITY:

Comradery Through Our Interdisciplinary Efforts, A Call to Action

Within the fiber of Asian American history is our activism and fight against injustice and exclusion.  Asian American psychology emerged from the Civil Rights movement, a time when communities across and within racial groups incited change for more equitable treatment. While honoring our rich and complex past and celebrating our triumphs, let’s continue to come together in solidarity to push forward inclusive community activism. Our hope is that this year’s convention will continue to bring diverse communities together to foster comradery, empower, re-energize, inspire, and ignite action.

The theme, ‘Rise in Solidarity’ directly builds on last year’s theme of going beyond Asian Americanness and examining our own diverse identities.  ‘Comradery Through Our Interdisciplinary Efforts’ encourages members to reach out to different fields with the goal of strengthening practice and research in Asian American psychology.  Further, the aftermath of the 2016 election has left many disenfranchised, especially those with multiple, targeted identities.  We hope this ‘Call to Action’ galvanizes AAPA members to heal and mobilize, while protecting those pushed to the margins.  This theme also addresses marginalized identities within our own ‘borders.’ During the closing panel of last year’s convention, AAPA members of various AAPI subgroups painfully shared stories about the invisibility of their intersectional identities.  By encouraging AAPA members to go beyond just acknowledging diverse identities, we aim to move towards inclusion and celebration of all marginalized identities within our AAPI community. As with every convention, we also emphasize the importance of networking, mentorship, and other professional development experiences, while remembering to HAVE FUN!

We are seeking proposals that draw attention to the experiences of the underrepresented Asian American groups (Southeast Asian, Pacific Islanders, LGBTQ, Multiracial People, and Women etc.), with a focus on those with multiple intersecting identities. In addition, we are interested in submissions that focus on collaborative projects (both nationally and internationally), interdisciplinary scholarship, multicultural perspective, cross-cultural psychology, and other works that further the social justice movement. We encourage submissions from researchers, community leaders and activists, mental health providers, and educators who work with underrepresented communities. Moreover, we welcome submissions from professionals and scholars in allied fields (e.g., Anthropology, Asian American Studies, Communication, Education, History, Law, Nursing, Political Science, Public Health, Psychiatry, Social Work, and Sociology) with whom we collaborate and whose work informs Asian American Psychology.

Proposals may address, but are not limited to, the following topics within AAPI Psychology:

Research or outreach with underrepresented AAPI groups (Southeast Asian, Pacific Islanders, LGBTQ, Multiracial People, and Women etc.)

  • Collaborative and interdisciplinary work examining the diversity of the AAPI community
  • Intersections of social identities such as race, gender, and sexual orientation (examining complexities of our different identities, focus on the different experiences)
  • Research, outreach and other topics involving the LGBTQ community
  • Social reform, public policy, and political action (involvement of Asian Americans in current political movements)
  • Social justice and equity
  • Immigration, immigration reform, needs and challenges of immigrant communities (examination of different adaptation experiences, process of acculturation, code switching, etc.)
  • Racial and ethnic identity development across different racial minority groups
  • Similarities and differences of racial discrimination across the different racial/ethnic groups
  • Intergroup conflicts; intergroup coalitions
  • Mental health and health disparities (research, outreach, programs that focus on access to care)
  • Increasing visibility in the education system and clinical and counseling settings
  • Colorblind, multicultural, and polycultural perspectives

Who May Submit

AAPA members at all levels of training (professional, graduate level, and undergraduate level), including non- psychologists interested in psychological issues affecting AAPIs are encouraged to submit proposals. Non- AAPA members at all levels may also submit proposals. We particularly encourage submissions from those interested in AAPI psychology who have not previously participated in AAPA conventions. Because strengthening the diversity of our colleagues in other organizations is of particular importance for psychologists of color, we strongly encourage submissions from members of other organizations, including by not limited to, the Association of Black Psychologists, Society of Indian Psychologists, and the National Latina/o Psychological Association.

While there is no limit to the total number of submitted proposals per person, individuals can only be the first author of one proposal submission. In the event that multiple first author submissions are received from an individual, the committee will review only the first proposal received. Exempted from this rule are presenters who are invited speakers.

Types of Submissions

  • Interactive Sessions: In a typical 90-minute session, a facilitator introduces the topic and sets up a context for subsequent discussions and interactions among participants.   • Difficult Dialogues: In this new 90-minute session, a facilitator engages participants in a meaningful dialogue about issues that are difficult to discuss in everyday conversations. Proposal submissions must delineate how facilitators will establish and manage a safe space that promotes respectful expression of opposing views, and provides an environment in which differing perspectives are defended, heard, and considered by participants who hold conflicting cultural values and ideas.  For questions about submitting a difficult dialogue session proposal, please contact Sessions Co-Chair Huijun Li at aapa.sessions@gmail.com.
  • Symposia: In a typical 90-minute symposium, three or four presentations are given around a common theme. An expert discussant may provide feedback. The symposium proposal submission must include one program summary that integrates the multiple presentations within the session. It must also clearly indicate the titles and contents of each presentation within the symposium. A chair for the symposium must be named on the application portal.   • Posters: Posters are displayed to disseminate information on various conceptual and/or empirical reports. During the designated 90-minute poster session, participants are invited to interact with poster presenters. Single research papers should be submitted as posters. For questions, please contact Poster Session Co-Chair Sunny Ho at aapapostercommittee@gmail.com.

Guidelines for Proposals

  • All online proposals should include:

○      Contact information for each presenter

○      Abstract (50 to 100 words) with no author names

○      Program Summary (500 to 700 words) with no author names

○      3-4 Learning Objectives (not required for poster submissions)

  • Proposals will be sent for anonymous reviews. As such, the Abstract and Program Summary should not include identifying information of the author(s) and/or presenter(s).
  • Submitters will be notified by email upon receipt of their proposal.
  • For submissions highlighted as being potential programs, which can award Continuing Education units 
(CEs), individual authors will be contacted to provide additional information.
  • Submission outcomes will be sent via email by June 10th, 2017.

Proposal Rating Criteria

Proposals will be rated based on the following criteria:

  • Relationship to convention theme
  • Relevance/timeliness of topic
  • Membership appeal
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Scientific/empirical soundness (for research symposia and posters)
  • Adequacy of strategy for involving audience (for interactive sessions)
  • Contribution to the field

Additional Information

Presenters should bring their own laptops (those with Mac laptops should bring the appropriate adaptor to connect to the LCD projector). LCD projectors for PowerPoint presentations will be provided. Requests for additional AV equipment will be addressed after the final selection of presenters has been decided.

Annual Review of Asian American Psychology, 2015

AAPA would like to congratulate the authors of “Annual Review of Asian American Psychology, 2015,” which has been chosen as the Feature Article of the June 2016 issue. Below is a brief biography of the lead author, Dr. Lisa Kiang, and some reflections on this research experience. We hope that the readers of AAJP will find this Feature and the rest of the issue’s articles to be informative and of benefit to their work. The Feature Article may be downloaded for free here, and the December 2016 issue’s Table of Contents is at the end of this post.

Brief Biography of Dr. Lisa Kiang

Lisa Kiang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Wake Forest University. She earned her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Denver and received her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her primary research interests are in the intersections of self and identity, family and social relationships, and culture, with a focus on adolescents from immigrant and ethnic minority backgrounds. Major themes include relational or contextual influences on identity formation, and culturally protective factors in promoting development and well-being.

Reflections from the Lead Author
I have sort of a love-hate relationship with technology, and my emotions certainly fluctuated to the extremes while collaborating on this paper. To start, though, I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to take on the important and enormous challenge of reviewing the outstanding research on Asian Americans published in 2015. It was rewarding and inspiring to see the quality of cutting-edge research focusing on this distinctive population. And in terms of sheer quantity, coordinating the coding, summary, review, and synthesis of hundreds upon hundreds of articles is no small feat and would never have been possible without the help from my small, but mighty, research lab and from my co-authors from the SRCD Asian Caucus. Indeed, one of the biggest tasks in working on this project was figuring out how to manage the process of coding articles for inclusion in the review. After consulting with one of my university’s reference librarians early on, I decided that using a combination of EbscoHost folders and Zotero would be one of the best ways to filter through abstracts and identify the final set of articles that met the criteria for inclusion—and this is where the “hate” comes in. These software programs and I had some words during the coding process, some pretty nasty words. And there were tears, mostly on my part. Some fists were even raised. Yet, in the end, glitches were resolved, inconsistencies were addressed, and no severe damage was done. After completing this project, Zotero and I decided we would take a little bit of break from each other, spend some time apart, but I think we’ll still be friends. The “love” aspect of my relationship with technology can be illustrated by the fact that much of the preparation and writing of this paper was handled internationally. I had the great fortune to teach in Vienna, Austria during the Spring of 2016 (more detailed teaching escapades can be found at http://www.s-r-a.org/announcements/blog/2016-05-17-teaching-semester-vienna-connecting-cultural-experiences-class-concept). Through technology, I was able to very efficiently and effectively communicate with my coding team and co-authors, whether it be via e-mails, electronic servers, shared folders, or online communication platforms. These days, it no longer seems remarkable to hold a meeting when attendees are distributed across multiple states and two or more continents, but it is the beauty and power of technology that makes such collaboration feasible and fun.

AAPA Receives the APA Public Interest Leadership Conference (PILC) Health Equity Dissemination Award

  

AAPA members Dr. Sumie Okazaki, Ulash Thakore-Dunlap LMFT, Dr. Cixin Wang, and Dr. Munyi Shea received the APA PILC award to work on creating and disseminating a resource based on guidelines on bullying and victimization among Asian American and Pacfic Islanders (AAPI) K-12 students to school professionals and parents.

AAPA aims to address the lack of knowledge and resources on AAPI students experiencing bullying in the community by creating a practical resource for teachers and parents on AAPI bullying and to disseminate the materials online in ways that are accessible by school administrators, academic counselors, school-based mental health professionals, teachers, and to parents.

AAPA will plan to print a sample batch of the guidelines in 4 languages (Chinese, English, Korean, and Vietnamese) to distribute through conferences and workshops. We plan to also disseminate the guidelines electronically by sharing the products and materials with the APA Safe and Supportive Schools Program as well as other social media tools and websites, making it accessible to all.

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

The  deaths of Alton Sterling, Philandro Castile, Terrence Crutcher, Keith Lamont Scott, and Alfred Olango, and Dallas Police Officers, Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael J. Smith, Brent Thompson, and Patrick Zamarripa, have amplified the violence and turmoil in the U.S. at this time. As leaders in the Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA), we ourselves are grieving and experiencing the range of emotions – intense sadness and loss, fear and helplessness, anger and frustration. We are at a critical crossroads as a community. We must raise our collective voice and resist the temptation to remain silent. We must stand and act in solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters, including our own family members who identify as Black and Asian. We reaffirm our commitment to #BlackLivesMatter, as echoed in our January 2015 statement on the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Importantly, we seek to move beyond statements and call for action as #API4BlackLives.

We must now come together professionally to stand with our African American and Black brothers and sisters.

As professionals and students in the field of Psychology and Mental Health, we are in a unique position to contribute to the efforts of combating anti-Blackness and responding to the deadly consequences of racism in this country. Many of us have access to opportunities to impact change at multiple levels. We ask that you reflect individually and collectively with your own networks to assess what skills, experience, and wisdom you hold that may serve to actively resist the system of racial oppression that continues to devalue Black and Brown lives. We honor that these actions, however small, involve taking risks and shoring up the courage to enact change. It is within AAPA’s mission and our ethical duty to help individuals and communities heal from these ongoing and historical traumas, as well as to work towards education and prevention of these toxic societal environments.

The AAPA Executive Committee has compiled a list of actions and resources that we, as Asian American/ Pacific Islander psychologists, allied professionals, and students can engage in. This list is organized by various contexts in which you may intervene – as individuals, within our families, in academic & educational settings, in clinical & therapy settings, and through other systems.

Individual Levels

  • Take action: Small actions add up and contribute to resisting despair. Share information, attend rallies or vigils, speak up, and be in community with other folks.
  • Check in with your Black loved ones and offer support however they may need.
  • Understand your own biases by taking an implicit bias test. Dialogue about your results with someone you care about and can encourage you to challenge these biases: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html
  • #StayWoke (www.staywoke.org) surveys your strengths and interests to connect you with activism opportunities (approx. 5 minutes).
  • Continue educating yourself on the issues. Some resources include:

Family

  • Talk to your family members of all generations about why #BlackLivesMatter.   • Translate information. Be reminded that much of our AAPI community would benefit from discussions and information communicated in their respective ethnic language. Consider the use of language, metaphors, and personal experience to share a challenging perspective.
  • Consider historical race-based trauma within your family. Be mindful that our immigrant and refugee community may be triggered by the constant violence and brutality in the media.
  • Stress the interconnectedness of AAPI and Black experiences with racism. Check in with folks and help them to understand that a system that does not respect Black lives will not respect Asian and Pacific Islander lives.
  • Engage in a conversation with children about racial injustice, and provide a safe space for them to ask questions and talk about their feelings. Academic & Educational Settings

Clinical & Therapy Settings

  • Invite your clients to discuss recent issues. If you are feeling fearful or uncertain, seek consultation or supervision. Here are two articles to consider
  • Be mindful of ways that you may commit racial microaggressions in therapy settings: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/culturally-speaking/201308/how-well-meaning-therapists-commit-racism
  • Foster dialogue with other clinical staff. If you work in a clinical setting with other clinicians (e.g., hospitals, university counseling centers, community mental health clinics), assess how well you are providing support for Black/African American communities as an institution, especially with regard to ongoing police brutality trauma.
  • Broach subjects of police brutality and related anti-Blackness in supervision. If you provide clinical supervision for other clinicians/trainees, clarify that these topics are relevant and appropriate topics for the therapy space and for supervision. Model and engage in active dialogue with your supervisees, showing how to broach and explore their own affective experiences while discussing race, White supremacy, and anti-Blackness. Support them in being able to foster these conversations with their clients.  

Psychology/Mental Health Partnerships with other Systems

 

  • Work with police departments as psychology experts:

 

      • Inquire if your local police department has required trainings or continuing education opportunities regarding racism or social justice. If anything, find out if they have trainings on mental health issues; if you provide trainings about mental health issues, you can integrate issues related to racism and social justice in your work.
      • Inquire if your police departments have a Community Affairs Bureau or Community Advisory Board. If they do, join it. If they don’t, find out how to create one.
    • Go beyond working to educate White folks.
    • Consider serving as a commissioner if your hometown has a Human Relations Commission. You can also offer to speak at a commission meeting on public record about the importance of police-community dialogues and supporting safety for POC.
    • Request that your Mayor or City Council address concerns about safety and trauma in your community.

 

  • Find other ways that fit your professional skills to center Blackness and work to support the Black community.

We hope that these resources serve as a starting point for further exchange of support and collaboration among our members to promote #API4BlackLives.
