About DMAA

Mission

Multiracial and adopted Asian Americans may find themselves in the liminal, the borderlands, the ambiguous. As individuals whose identities are often questioned or invisible, DMAA members find themselves negotiating questions such as, “Am I Asian American?” and “I’m not sure if I’m Asian enough for AAPA. Reflecting this shared experience, DMAA is the space within AAPA that is committed to promoting the empowerment, visibility, and well-being of adopted and multiracial/multiethnic Asian Americans.

DMAA’s mission is multifaceted. We aim to:

  • Provide a space for multiracial and adopted Asian Americans to reflect upon and feel a sense of belongingness within the larger Asian American community.
  • Support research that advances understanding of adopted and multiracial Asian American experiences.
  • Provide pathways for student and early career members to leadership and professional development opportunities.
